Betty Lou Kiser, 99, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Heartland Senior Living in Neoga, Illinois.

She was born on December 31, 1922, in Pinkstaff, Illinois, the daughter of John Wesley Steele Sr. and Mary (Selby) Steele. She married William ‘Wendell’ Kiser on August 09, 1941, and he preceded her in death on May 15, 2008.

Betty was a homemaker. She was a member of the American POW Auxiliary. Her hobbies included bowling, flower gardening, crocheting, doing word search puzzles, and playing the organ and keyboard.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; brothers, John Wesley Steele Jr. and Philip Theodore Steele; sister, Geraldine Miller; and son-in-law, Neal M. Akes.

Survivors include son, Philip Kiser and wife, Bernice of Effingham, Illinois; daughter, Cynthia S. ‘Sunny’ Akes of Cody, Wyoming; niece, Sherrill Rich and husband, Ron of Terre Haute, Indiana; four grandchildren, Michelle Lynn (Jason) Potter, Angela Dawn (Andy) Potter, Christopher (Misty) Kiser, and Kimberly Sue (Bob) Weaver; 11 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren and one on the way.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 28, 2022 at Watson United Methodist Church in Watson, Illinois. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday prior to the service at the church. Local services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham, Illinois.

Funeral services will also be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois with visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery in Lawrenceville, Illinois.
