Steven Lee Dunaway, 65, of Laura, IL, formerly of Cowden, IL, passed away at home on Tuesday, February 1, 2022.

Steve was born on October 13, 1956, in Shelbyville, the son of Howard Lester and Lenore Sophie (Harrison) Dunaway. Steve and Betty Jean (Morgason) Smith were married on April 22, 1993 and were blessed with 28 years of marriage. He was employed as a welding foreman at Kress Corporation in Brimfield, horseshoer and had begun to dabble in Black Angus cattle.

Surviving are his wife, Betty; daughters: LeeAnn Mason, Dana Robison and Stephanie Walters; stepchildren: Denise Glick (Chad) and Douglas Smith (Jennifer); 14 grandchildren: Megan, Tyler, Kaylee, Elly, Ean, Easton, Oliver, Adler, Emelyn, Will, Emily Lynn, Katelyn Jean, Morgan Alexis and Taylor Rene; siblings: Gary Dunaway (Kathy), Edward Dunaway (Sue) and Kathy Jo Dunaway Shea (Dave) and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Jason and sister, Karen Sue Dunaway Riley.

Funeral services will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2022, in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Cremation will take place following the service with a private family burial at a later date. Lockart-Green Funeral Home is assisting the family.
