Marvin Dale Debolt (76) of Shumway

Marvin Dale Debolt, 76, of Shumway, Illinois passed away on Tuesday February 1, 2022, in Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Care Center in Mattoon, Illinois. 

Marvin was born June 11, 1945, the son of Martin and Mildred Debolt. He married Linda (Barker) Debolt on December 19, 1970, in the First Baptist Church in Shelbyville, Illinois. 

Mr. Debolt served in the United States Army in Vietnam, in the MACV USARV Adjutant General Corps from 1966-1967 as a Specialist E5. He was a member of the Stewardson American Legion, a life member of the Effingham VFW, life member of the Stewardson United Methodist Church and a 46-year member of the Masonic Lodge. He served as a past president and past treasurer of the Stewardson Lions Club, Past Master of Stewardson Masonic Lodge and past trustee on the Board of Trustees of the Stewardson Fire Department.  

Marvin completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology with teaching certification, as well as a Master’s Degree in Education at Eastern Illinois University. He worked for the Illinois Central Railroad as an agent operator before going into the Army and afterwards while attending college. He taught industrial technology in Edgewood School for several years, before going to work for Illinois Children and Family Services. He later transferred to the Illinois Department of Employment Security as the Veterans Employment Representative where he worked for more than 20 years. In his retirement, Marvin enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding his Gold Wing Trike and Harley Electra Glide. He had been a member of both the Gold Wing and Harley motorcycle clubs. He enjoyed traveling the United States and Europe with his wife to see historical sites, but especially enjoyed the country music of Branson, Missouri. 

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Linda of Shumway; two children: Michel of Naples, Florida and Mark (wife Lisa) of Anaheim, California; three grandchildren: Leah, Tyler and Abby; brothers: Don (wife, Linda) of Stewardson and Carl (wife, Shirley) of Stevens Point, Wisconsin and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Matthew. 

Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 5, 2022, in Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson, Illinois with Masonic rites performed by the Greenland Masonic Lodge #665 of Beecher City, Illinois at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 6, 2022, in the Stewardson United Methodist Church with Reverend David Ducommon officiating. Burial will take place in Stewardson Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post 611 of Stewardson, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 611 Building Fund, the Stewardson United Methodist Church or Greenland Masonic Lodge #665 of Beecher City, Illinois for the Stewardson-Strasburg High School Scholarship Fund and mailed to Brummerstedt Funeral Home, 302 W. Main Street, Shelbyville, IL 62565. Brummerstedt Funeral Home is assisting the family.
