Cletis Michael "Mikey" Hicks (52) of Lakewood

Cletis Michael “Mikey” Hicks, 52, of Lakewood, IL passed away at 1:33 a.m. on Monday, January 31, 2022, in Methodist Hospitals Southlake Campus in Merrillville, IN.

Mikey was born on May 1, 1969, in Shelbyville, the son of Cletis Wilton and Ruby Doreen (Miller) Hicks. Mikey taught all of us that we can see past the difficulties and find the beauty, for there is always beauty. He gave us the gift of unconditional love and taught us how to be happy because he took joy in the simple things in life-joy in seeing family, attending Armstrong School in Mattoon, participating in the Special Olympics, attending Camp New Hope in Mattoon, listening to old country music and visiting McDonalds.

Mikey will lovingly be remembered by his mother, Ruby Hicks of Lakewood; brothers: Jesse Baker and wife Sandy of Shelbyville, Job Hicks of Lakewood, Harold Scroggins of Decatur and Randy Hicks and wife Carol of Cowden; sisters: Donna (Hicks) Newton of Mattoon, Lois (Baker) Bertulli and husband Bob of Tampa, FL, Shirley (Hicks) Wells and husband Rod of Rochester, Ruby (Hicks) Bowyer and husband Matt of Jackson, MO, Pat (Hicks) Lamb of Shelbyville and Dixie (Hicks) Hale of Mattoon.

He was preceded in death by his father, Cletis W. Hicks; three brothers: Brian Hicks, Tim McClain and Cletis O. Hicks and sister, Kathleen Hicks.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 4, 2022, in Lighthouse United Pentecostal Church in Lakewood. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery in rural Cowden. Memorials may be made in Mikey’s name to Camp New Hope or the Special Olympics and mailed to 302 W. Main St., Shelbyville, IL 62565. Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville is assisting the family.
