Nellie Ruth Markwell, 91, of Greenup, IL. passed away at 7:50 pm Friday, January 28, 2022, at the Cumberland Rehab & Health Care Center in Greenup, IL.
Graveside funeral services will be at 3:00 pm on Monday January 31, 2022, at the Greenup Cemetery. The Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup is assisting the family.
Nellie was born on August 15, 1930, in Greenup, IL to Clifford & Edna (Donley) Carr. She married Loren “Smokey” Markwell on June 4, 1947, and he preceded her in 2014.
Survivors include her daughter Linda Ruth Markwell (friend Clete Cohurst). Surviving granddaughters are Missy Jones-Bromenshenkel (husband Tim) and Wendy Akbar. Great grandchildren are Sophie and Elle Jones, and Natiya and KJ Akbar; sister Susie Callahan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Terry Markwell; brothers Bill, Hank, David, Jack, and John Carr; sisters Edith Markwell, Ruby Wright, Mary Ellen Moss and Maye Ozier.
Nellie was a member of the Toledo Christian Church. Memorials can be made to either the Cumberland Rebab Auxiliary or the Toledo Christian Church.
