Roumaine M. Dammermann 101 years old, of rural Moccasin Township near Altamont passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon December 15, 2021 at 3:51 PM at the home of her daughter.

Visitation for family and friendswill be conducted from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sunday December 19, 2021 at the Kull Funeral Chapel, Altamont, Illinois. Funeral Services will be held Monday morning December 19, 2021 at 10:00 am with the Rev. Jerry Bagwell officiating. There will be a visitation from 9:00 am until the funeral service at the Faith Lutheran Church in Shumway, Illinois. Christian Burial Rites will be conducted in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery also in Shumway following the funeral service. The family requests that mask mandates should be followed if possible.

Roumaine was born March 31, 1920 at home into the Christian family of Edward and Carrie Wetherell Laue in rural Shumway, Illinois. She was baptized May 23, 1920 at home. She attended the Dennis School, a one room schoolhouse and confirmed her faith in 1933 at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Shumway. Roumaine attended the Shumway High School for 3 years. She furthered her education by cleaning house for room and board to graduate from Effingham High School,

After graduating, Roumaine met and later married Harold Dammermann of rural Altamont, Illinois on December 16, 1939 in St. Louis, Missouri. Harold and Roumaine started married life on the family farm and were members of Trinity Lutheran Church, Shumway, Illinois. The couple enjoyed the old-time barn dances, sightseeing trips, and raising one daughter. Socializing together was enjoyed until Harold’s death on October 7, 1981.

She liked being a farm wife and mother and helped with the farming. She also tended the chickens, enjoyed gardening, canning and mowing. She later transferred her membership to Faith Lutheran Church, Shumway, where she served on a building committee, helped with the ice cream socials, the soup suppers and made delicious pies. Roumaine was a lifelong member of the Effingham County Farm Bureau and received the honor of being the oldest member since 1944. Besides having to being alone for many years, she had a good life and was thankful to be able to stay the last four years with her daughter.

Roumaine leaves behind one daughter, Theda Rincker of Altamont, Illinois. Two grandchildren, Miles Rincker of Indianapolis, Indiana and Chantelle and her husband Jason Stroder of Troy, Illinois and two great grandchildren, Jaxon and Greyson Stroder, one brother Orville Laue of Effingham, Illinois as well as 2 nieces and 6 great nephews and 4 great, great nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Harold, sister-in-law Thelma Laue and one great nephew.
