Peggy Washburn, 64, of Brownstown, died at 1:15 p.m., Friday, December 10, 2021 at HSHS St. John’s Memorial Hospital, Springfield.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at First Christian Church, Brownstown with Wes Bell officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time. Cremation will follow services and burial of cremated remains will be at a later date in Pilcher Cemetery, rural Brownstown. Memorials may be made to Four Mile Christian Church or the donor’s choice. Gieseking Funeral Home, Brownstown is assisting the family with arrangements.

CDC and IDPH guidelines with regard to COVID-19 must be followed. This includes, but is not limited to, face covering and social distancing.

Peggy Diane Washburn was born on Thursday, January 3, 1957 in Shelbyville, IL to Charles Vernon and Rosemary Ann (Carter) Dilley. She married Joe Washburn on June 2, 1972. She was a member of Four Mile Christian Church, Brownstown. She was employed at Brockway Packaging, Vandalia and had owned Red Rooster Creations, Brownstown. She’ll be remembered for her positive attitude and perpetual smile, especially during her battle with cancer and her fierce loyalty to family and friends.

In addition to her husband of over 49 years, she is survived by; sons, Joshua (Candace) Washburn, Ramsey and Jasper (Elizabeth) Washburn, Brownstown; daughter, Kassie Washburn, Brownstown; brothers, Melvin Bruce (Janelle) Dilley, Brownstown, Mark Neil (Carol) Dilley, St. Elmo and Forrest Vernon ‘Speed’ (Judy) Dilley, Brownstown; sister, Carolyn Kay Stokes (Mike) Thompson, Kansas City, MO; stepbrothers, Wayne Doyle Stokes, Centralia and Sean Kelly Stokes, Vandalia; half-sister, Judy Joan Kelly (Bob) Everman, Indianapolis, IN; stepsister, Carolyn Kay Stokes (Ronnie) Holding, Brownstown; nine grandchildren, Noah Denton, Mckenzy Washburn, Jonathan Washburn, Jaxson Washburn, Sampson Washburn, Elizabeth Austin, Grace Austin, Xzavier Austin and Zekiah Austin.

Peggy was preceded in death by; her parents, brother, Larry Eugene Dilley; half-brothers, Bernard Dilley, Charles Edward Dilley, and Paul Leon Kelly; and half-sisters, Betty Mae Drees and Mary Ann Sefton.
