William Douglas “Doug” VanDyke, 82, of Louisville, Illinois, passed Wednesday, December 8, 2021.  

Doug was born in Mason, Illinois on March 29, 1939, to Ward and Helen (Hall) VanDyke. He was united in marriage to Sabra Thomas Zink in 1975, and they shared 46 years together. Doug graduated from North Clay High School in 1957 and Springfield Radiology School.  He held a variety of jobs over the years, including x-ray technician, sales, and farming.  He thoroughly enjoyed his family, loved to work around the homeplace clearing the woods, restoring cars and tractors, playing dominoes, and solving crossword puzzles.  Doug was a lover of history and nature, as well as an avid reader. He had a wicked sense of humor and loved to make people laugh, solved the world’s problems with his coffee buddies, and was always accompanied in the car by his trusty co-pilot dog, Trouble. 

Doug is survived by his wife, Sabra, of Louisville; children, Vince (Linda) VanDyke of Rinard, IL; Mona (Danny) Perales of Laredo, TX; Scott (Barb) VanDyke of Wentzville, MO; stepchildren Janet Zink of Irvine, CA; Cathy (Rick) Billingsley of Mesquite, NV; and Pam Zink of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren Tristan Billingsley and Chynna (Josiah) LoRusso, as well as three great-grandchildren, Harper, Landon, and Grayson LoRusso. Also surviving are brothers Monte (Susan) VanDyke and Mark (Marcia) VanDyke, as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

Preceding Doug in death were his parents, a brother, Robert “Bob” VanDyke, and two sisters, Martha Deain and Jean Baker. 

A visitation in his honor will be held from 12:00 p.m. -2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 13, 2021, at McGriff & Triplett Funeral Home in Louisville, with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m., with Ron Payne officiating.  Burial will be at Floral Gardens of Memory in Flora, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Clay County Hospice. They may be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to 601 E. 12th Street, Flora, IL  62839.
