Clovis R. Hires (74) of Olney

Clovis R. Hires, age 74, of Olney, Illinois, passed away at 3:52 PM Friday, December 3, 2021, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 11, 2021, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois, with Doyle Williams and Gene Southard officiating. Burial will be in the Restitution Cemetery near Casey, Illinois. Visitation will be held 5:00- 7:00 PM Friday, December 10, 2021, at the funeral home. Clovis was born on July 10, 1947, in Terre Haute, Indiana, the son of Walter “Bud” and Edna Leota (Southard) Hires. Clovis worked as the manager of the grain elevator in Rose Hill Illinois. Prior to managing the grain elevator, he owned and operated C & H Grocery in Hidalgo, Illinois. He was a member of the Glenwood Church in Noble, Illinois and the National Rifle Association. Clovis was an avid hunter, collected baseball cards, and enjoyed working with wood, building bird houses and the likes. One of his greatest joys was coaching baseball and watching his children and grandchildren participate in various sporting activities.

Clovis is survived by: Children – Amy Hires Schimmelpfenning of Noble, Illinois; Angie Hires of Effingham, Illinois; and Andy (Trisha) Hires of Olney, Illinois 5 Grandchildren - Skylar (Kenna) Salyers, Aaron (Heather) Jenks, Dylan Hires, Raegan Hires, and Cooper Hires 6 Great Grandchildren – Eliayas Salyers, Brayton Salyers, Paisley Salyers, Emma Jenks, Aubrie Jenks and Alexis Jenks.

Clovis was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Edna Hires, brother George Daniel Hires and sister Betty (Hires) Kercsmer.
