Donald J. Paterson (83) of Shelbyville

Donald J. Paterson, Sr., 83, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 10:53 a.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2021, in HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.

Don was born on April 22, 1938, in Chicago, the son of Edward and Anne (Moskal) Paterson. He worked as a pipe fitter with Local 597 in Chicago. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and spending time with his loved ones.  Don was a member of the Village Sportsmen’s Club in Alsip.

Surviving are his children: Donald Paterson Jr., of Shelbyville, Kathy Paterson of Valparaiso, IN, Kelly (Jeff Ohman) Coughlin of Lacon and Karen Bernal of Oak Forest; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and brother, Edward Paterson of Alsip.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Patrick; sister, Barbara and daughter-in-law, Tammy.

A gathering to celebrate a life well lived by Don will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2021, in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville.  Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Lockart-Green Funeral Home is assisting the family.  Family and friends are invited to light a candle or share a story in Don’s honor by clicking here.
