Kenneth "Kenny" Schwerman (50) of Shumway

Kenneth “Kenny” Edwin Schwerman, 50, of Shumway, Illinois passed away Saturday, November 13th 2021 at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri surrounded by family.  

Kenny was born on October 10th, 1971, in Cherry Point, North Carolina, to Darrell Sr. and Sandra (Rentfrow) Schwerman, both of Effingham. He graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1989.  

Kenny then worked many occupations in the medical field, beginning as an EMT, then paramedic, emergency room trauma nurse, and culminating as a nurse practitioner. In his spare time, he was a volunteer firefighter, retiring as the Fire Chief of Shumway, as well as volunteering for the Rescue Dive Team of Effingham County. A staunch defender of the Second Amendment, he was the owner of Schwerman Firearms. 

Kenny married Jaime (Goddard) on May 28th, 2011, in Effingham.  

Kenny is survived by his wife Jaime, sons Alec (fiancé Ashley) of Mt. Pulaski and Zaine Brayden of Effingham from his first wife, Anita Beccue, parents Darrell Sr. and Sandra of Effingham, brother Darrell Jr. (wife Dana) of San Antonio, sister Karie Apke (husband Trevor) of Effingham, and special friends Billie Toland, Glenn Hoshauer and Angie Miley. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and his beloved German Short Haired Pointer, Izzy.  

Kenny had a passion for many things including collecting firearms, camping, motorcycle riding, upland bird hunting, and scuba diving. Kenny enjoyed spending time with family and friends, as he had more friends than anyone could count. 

Kenny was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Norman and Bernice Rentfrow, and paternal grandparents Charles Schwerman and Evelyn Vail. 

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life gathering on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Effingham Event Center (KC Hall) anytime from 2-5PM.
