Albert “Darrel” Petersen, 67, of Mason passed away surrounded by his loving family at 9:40 a.m. Sunday, October 31, 2021, at his home.

Albert was born on December 3, 1953, in Effingham, the son of Edward and Marzella (Willis) Petersen. He married Loletta Kirby on July 13, 1974, at the Grace Lutheran Church, in Dieterich, and they shared 47 years of marriage. Darrel worked for World Color Press in Effingham for many years and, then went to Kingery Printing in Effingham where he later retired from. He was an avid outdoorsman. Some of his outdoor activities were fishing, hunting, and mushroom hunting. Darrel loved all sports, but the biggest love in his life was his family that he treasured very much.

Darrel is survived by his wife; Loletta Petersen, of Mason, 3 sons; Shad (Tiffany) Petersen, of Robinson, Illinois, Craig (Tammy) Petersen, of Urbana, Illinois, Preston (Amanda) Petersen, of Flora, 9 grandchildren; Hunter Petersen, Reyce Petersen, Aubree Petersen, Ava Beard, Laylan Beard, Kelton Nichols, Lia Petersen, Kaylin Petersen, Ayda Petersen. He is also survived by 2 brothers; Larry (Joyce) Petersen, of Hord, Allan “Doc” Petersen, of Hord, mother-in-law; Arlene Kirby, 4 sisters-in-law; Joyce Petersen, Karen Petersen, Sue Petersen, Terri Hillyer.

Darrel was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers; James Petersen, William Petersen, Phillip Petersen, Marty Petersen, and his father-in-law; Noble Kirby.  

Funeral services honoring the life of Darrel will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 4, 2021 at the McGriff & Triplett Funeral Home in Louisville with Rev. Stephen Rutherford officiating, burial will follow at the Old Union Cemetery, Bible Grove. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening at the funeral home where friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Donor’s Choice.
