Michael Eugene “Mike” Andrews, age 64, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 10:52 PM Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.

Funeral services celebrating Mike’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois, with Pastor Roger Long and Pastor Darren McDonald officiating. Burial will be in the Trexler Cemetery west of Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 PM Monday, November 1, 2021, at the funeral home. In loving memory of Mike, memorials may be made to the Newton Ministerial Association – Food Basket Program and can be mailed to the Andrews Family, 207 Orchard Drive, Newton, Illinois 62448. Michael Eugene, better known to his family and friends as “Mike” was born on May 14, 1957, in Effingham, Illinois, the son of Donald Eugene and Susie Jane (Marshall) Andrews. He married Shelly Long on September 10, 1988, at Scott Avenue Christian Church in Newton, Illinois. Mike graduated from Newton Community High School in 1976. After high school, he went to work at Jesse B. Holt, Inc. until 1983, when he started his career with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office. He retired from Sheriff’s office as correctional officer after 26 years of service. After his retirement, Mike went to work at Marathon One Stop in Newton.

Mike was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and the Jasper County Antique Tractor Club. He enjoyed his tractor, spending time with his grandsons and exploring the Shawnee National Forest.

Mike is survived by: Wife of 33 years – Shelly Andrews of Newton, Illinois; Mother – Susie Andrews of Newton, Illinois; Children – Billy Andrews (fiancé Micaela Herning) of Greenfield, Indiana and Deanna Douthit (Troy) of Newton, Illinois; Grandchildren – Braxton Douthit, Orion Andrews and Hayden Burton.

Mike was preceded in death by his father and brother Timothy Andrews.
