John W. May age 90, of Newton passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021 at his home.

Funeral services celebrating John’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 18, 2021 at the Central Christian Church in Newton with Pastor Mike Knepper officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, October 17 in the church. Burial will be in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Newton, Illinois with military rites being offered by Jasper Post No. 20 of the American Legion.

John was born on May 11, 1931 in Jasper County, Illinois the son of Ira I. and Dorothy (Wagner) May. John served his country in the United States Navy. On May 20, 1956, John married Patricia A. Lollar. She preceded him in death on November 14, 2008. On November 1, 2009, John married Glenda Schott. She survives. John spent his life farming in Jasper County.

He was a member of the Central Christian Church of Newton and Jasper Post 20 of the American Legion. Through the years, he served on the Jasper County School Board, Wade Township Fire District Committee, and the Jasper County Farm Bureau, past president. In his retirement years, John became an avid golfer. He also enjoyed hunting, traveling and spending the winter in Florida.

John will be loved and remembered by his wife Glenda Schoot of Newton; children Laura Miller, husband Danny; Susan May, friend Brian Dhom; Becky Kocher, husband Ramon; David May, wife Gina; and Ira May, wife Becky all of Newton; step- son Wayne Schott of Michigan; grandchildren Andy Miller, Katelynn McClain, Jesse Kocher, Leslie Nix, Chelsea Webb, Trevor May, Logan May, Jonathan Holland, Lyndsae Westrich and Alec Westrich; step-grandsons David Schott and Jason Schott both of Michigan; great-grandchildren Kyndal Brown, Amelia Nix, Samuel Webb, Caroline Kocher, Vivienne Kocher, Brantley Miller, Hunter Holland, Rhylee Holland, Adalynn Westrich and Livia Westrich; brothers Don May of Newton and Lon May, wife Charlotte of Tennessee and sister Helen Matson of Florida.

His parents, wife Patty, and sisters Lenora Seely and Irene Jones preceded him in death.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jasper County Cancer Support Fund.
