Junavere M. “June” Cheatum (94) of Effingham

Junavere M. “June” Cheatum, 94, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at her home in Effingham. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given to Catholic Charities, Sacred Heart School or to the Effingham County Humane Society. Arrangements are in the care of Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. 

June was born November 15, 1926 in Effingham, the daughter of Michael and Marie (Swingler)  Bierman. She married Ervin Floyd Cheatum on June 29, 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1981. 

June was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and worked funeral dinners for many years. She was also a member of the Sacred Heart Council of Catholic Women and Catholic Daughters of the Americas. 

June served as a Girl Scout leader for 10 years, a licensed beautician and retired from J.C. Penny. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and was a member of the Effingham Women’s Bowling Association and was elected into the Hall of Fame. June was a charter member of the Drug Alert Snowball, Gold Star wives and a charter member of D.A.V. #7 12th Armored Division.

June is survived by her daughters, Karen Cheatum of Effingham and Sharon (Carl) Holland of Sparta; sister-in-law, Phyllis Bierman of Greenback, TN; grandson, Reid (Natalie) Holland of O’Fallon, MO granddaughter-in-law, Amanda Holland of Commerce City, CO; great-grandchildren Nora and Bennett and great-step-grandchildren, Toni and Kayla.

June was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Cheryl Ann; grandsons, A.J. and Curt Holland; sisters, Lois Ludwig and Susan Andes; brother, Leonard Bierman.
