Lorraine J. “Johnny” Ochs, age 97, of Sainte Marie, Illinois, passed away at 12:01 AM Friday, August 6, 2021, at Newton Care Center in Newton, Illinois.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM Monday, August 9, 2021, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held 9:00-11:00 AM Monday at the church. In loving memory of Lorraine, memorials may be made to the Huntington’s Disease Research or the donor’s choice. Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. Lorraine, better known to his family and friends as “Johnny” was born on January 30, 1924, in rural Jasper County, Illinois, the son of Peter and Ida (Zuber) Ochs. He married Dorothy Klingler on January 7, 1947, and she preceded him in death on July 5, 1980. He later married Romonna (Copper) Hunzinger, on February 11, 1989, and she preceded him in death on April 6, 2021.

Lorraine was a lifelong farmer, who took pride in the work. He was a member of the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, and he enjoyed traveling.

Lorraine is survived by: Children - Harold Ochs of Newton, Illinois; Carol (Don) Hahn of Claremont, Illinois; Sharon Watson of Newton, Illinois; Mary (Ken) Helregel of Dundas, Illinois; Neil Ochs of Olney, Illinois; Helen (Andrew) Grunloh of Teutopolis, Illinois; Kathy (David) Helregel of Ste. Marie, Illinois; Thresa (Brad) Robards of Dieterich, Illinois; Daughter-in-law - Eileen Ochs of West Liberty, Illinois and Sue Ochs of Newton, Illinois; Sister - Eunice Schackmann of Newton, Illinois; Sister-in-law - Georgia Klingler of Olney, Illinois; 28 Grandchildren and 32 Great-grandchildren. Lorraine is also survived by Romonna’s children and grandchildren.

Lorraine was preceded in death by his parents, wives, sons Leo Ochs and Allen Ochs, daughter and son-in-law JoAnn (Kenneth) Mette; daughter-in-law Mary Ochs, one grandchild, one great-grandchild, brothers Herman, Gilbert, Philip, Lester, sisters Rose Rubsam, Henrietta Deimel, Charlene Miller and Bernadine Kuenstler.
