Douglas G. Wendte, 60, of Watson, passed away at 6:45 p.m. on Sunday, August 1, 2021, Lakeland Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Effingham.

Doug was born August 26, 1960 in Effingham, the son of Gilbert Henry and Dolores Evelyn (Diehl) Wendte. He graduated from Effingham High School with the Class of 1978. Doug worked for Sears and Peerless in Effingham for many years, before gaining employment as a security guard for Heartland Peterbilt for over 20 years. He also owned and operated a rental property and trucking business for many years.

Doug was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham. He enjoyed country music, and attending concerts. Doug also loved western films, especially John Wayne. He collected old cars for many years, and loved the local bus trips he attended over the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Duane Wendte.

Doug is survived by his brothers, Donald (Pat) Wendte, and Dale Wendte, both of Watson; sisters, Diane (Dean) Greuel of Effingham, Debra Sanders of Watson, and Dawn (Dan “Fred”) Roedl of Mason; sister-in-law, Christy Wendte of Effingham; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 901 W. Jefferson Street, Effingham, IL 62401.

Funeral Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 9, 2021 at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Gary Fortkamp officiating.

Interment will follow the ceremony at Arborcrest Memorial Park in Funkhouser.
