Mary Genean (Eckman) Stoddard (91) of Shelbyville, formerly of Joliet

Mary Genean (Eckman) Stoddard, 91, of Shelbyville, IL, formerly of Joliet, IL, passed away at 9:18 p.m. on Friday, June 25, 2021 in Hickory Estates Memory Care in Pana, IL.

Mary was born in Gillespie, the daughter of Baltzer and Lillie (Rhoads) Eckman. She worked as a secretary for the State of Illinois before retiring in 1998 and was a member of the Channahon United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her children: Brenda (Wayne) Gear, Danny (Nancy) Stoddard and David (Adrian) Stoddard; granddaughters: Laura (Rich) Mansell, Rachel (Phil) Hensley, Samantha Frigo and Elizabeth Gear; grandsons: Ryan (Jen Hart) Stoddard, David (Vlora) Stoddard, Adam (Heather) Gear, Nick Frigo and Ethan Gear; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Vernon Stoddard; son, James Stoddard; siblings: Mildred Scopel, Nellie Schwanke, Verda Brunetto, Buel Eckman and Leora Bada.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home, 1500 Black Road, Joliet, IL. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park, 23030 W. Jefferson St., Joliet, IL. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be made in Mary’s name to Lightways Hospice (Joliet Area Community Hospice) or to the family. Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag and Lockart-Green Funeral Homes are assisting the family.
