Mehdi Mourad, 21, of Mattoon, IL, formerly of Morocco, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2021, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, due to injuries sustained from an automobile accident while in route to a volunteer fire call.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, July 3, 2021 at New Hope Church in Effingham and will be streamed live. Burial will be in Neoga Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Saturday prior to the service at the church. The funeral service will be streamed live on Facebook: Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, IL. Arrangements are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorials may be made to the Children’s Haven of Morocco, with checks payable to Amine Jarrad. Mehdi was born June 15, 2000, in Morocco, the son of Nathan and Cindy (Stevens) Sefiane. Mehdi attended Lake Land College for automotive studies and worked at KC Summers in Mattoon. He was a volunteer fireman for the Wabash Fire Protection District. Mehdi was always willing to help others and loved working on cars. He was living his dream of coming to America and had big hopes which he was working towards.

Mehdi is survived by his parents, Nathan and Cindy Sefiane; grandparents, Samuel H. and Judith A. Stevens; siblings, Hajar, Omar, Marouane, Khaoula, Najma, Sara, Aouatif, Anwar, Alaina, Nejma, Rihame, Rayane, Sonia, Zak, and Nora; and many other family members from the Children’s Haven of Morocco.
