Melissa Higgs (51) of Effingham

Melissa Higgs, 51, of Effingham, died on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at Missouri Baptist Medical Center, St. Louis.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Altamont with Rev. Dr. James F. Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Altamont. Visitation will be from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. Monday at the church and for one hour prior to service time on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, Immanuel Lutheran Church or the donor’s choice. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Melissa Renee Higgs was born on January 14, 1970 in Olney, IL to Kenneth and Renee (Clark) Patterson. She married Donald L. Higgs on August 18, 2001 in Bloomington, IL. She was the Controller at Siemer Milling, Teutopolis. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Altamont and previously a member of the First Christian Church, Noble. She was very active with the American Red Cross.

She is survived by her husband of almost 20 years, Donald of Effingham; parents, Kenneth and Renee Patterson of Noble; daughter, Danielle Higgs (Truman Rhodes) of Beecher City and brother, Damon Patterson and his wife Coartney of Newton; grandchildren, Truman B. Rhodes, Bryor Rhodes, River Rhodes, Emmett Rhodes, Sheiann Rhodes, and Keaira Arnold; great granddaughter, Aubriella Rhodes; niece, Lena; and many cousins.

Melissa was preceded in death by her grandparents.
