William "Bill" Meek, Sr. (81) of Cowden

William “Bill” Meek, Sr., 81, of Cowden, IL passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at home surrounded by his loved ones.

Bill was born on July 21, 1939, in Decatur, the son of Clarence and Maude (Lines) Meek. He married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Bates, on June 26, 1965 in Cowden and they were blessed with 43 years of marriage before Shirley’s passing on March 13, 2009. Bill owned and operated Meek’s Repair Shop in Cowden for many years. He also worked at Oliver Corporation in Shelbyville, Imperial Bondware in Shelbyville for 19 years and as a driver for Dan Hecht in Effingham and Boarman’s Auto Sales in Shelbyville. Bill enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing and squirrel hunting. He was a past member of the Joppa Masonic Lodge #706 of Cowden.

Surviving are his sons: Jeff Meek and wife, Melanie and Bill Meek Jr. and wife, Melissa, all of Herrick; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and sister, Martha Burger of Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Maude Meek; wife, Shirley Meek; son, Jeremy Meek and one granddaughter, Shoshana Meek.

Visitation will be held from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden. Private graveside services will be held in Mound Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Bill’s name to the donor’s favorite charity. Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden is assisting the family.
