Calvin Eugene Hamann (76) of Montrose

Calvin Eugene Hamann, 76, of Montrose, IL, was embraced by his Heavenly Father on Sunday, April 25, 2021. He passed away peacefully at his home on a perfectly beautiful spring day.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 3 at 11am at Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup with Pastor Jason Rensner officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7pm Sunday, and 10 to 11am Monday, with funeral services immediately following at Janesville Cemetery.

Calvin was born in Altamont, IL on July 5, 1944, to Minnie M. Hamann. Baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, he remained a devout follower throughout his life, first as a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altamont, and later Grace Lutheran Church in Dieterich, IL.

After attending Altamont High School, he served in the Army from 1965 to 1968. Following his military service, he first oversaw maintenance of equipment at Altamont Garment Factory before establishing a career at World Color Press in Effingham in 1973, where he would work until he retired in 2004.

Drawing from an enduring servant spirit, he found many ways to help others as a volunteer, proudly serving on the Altamont Fire Department for over 30 years, as an usher at Immanuel Lutheran, delivering Meals on Wheels, as a Trustee at Grace Lutheran, as a host for several international interns & exchange students, plus countless acts of kindness to family, friends & strangers alike.

On October 7, 2000, he married his soulmate, Karen (Mooday) Haack. Residing in Montrose, together, he and Karen shared a mutual passion for several activities, including but not limited to camping, traveling, time with family, their cherished dogs, and classic cars.

He is survived by Karen, children Michael (Lora) Hamann of Effingham, Sandra Davis (Colin Brady) of St Charles, MO and Nancy Lefever of Columbia, MO, Karen’s children- Rob Haack (Sheila Wynn) of Jewett, IL, Rebecca (Rob) Bushue of Mason, IL, Randy (Jill) Haack and Rita (Donny) Phillips of Montrose, many treasured grandchildren & great-grandchildren, and last but not least, their beloved pet & companion Molly.

He was preceded in death by his mother.
