Richard Powell Bryant, 89, of Effingham, IL, passed away at 6:25 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2021 at his daughter’s home in Shelbyville, IL.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2021 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, 415 N. Broadway, Shelbyville, IL 62565.  Memorials may be given to HSHS Hospice in Effingham, IL and mailed to Howe and Yockey Funeral Home.

Richard was born on August 24, 1931 in St. Louis, MO, the son of Arthur Lemmon and Hilda Kathryn (Smith) Bryant.  He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.  Richard drove for Yellow Freight until his retirement.  He enjoyed racing stock cars, collecting cars, spending time with his grandchildren and walking on the beach in Sarasota, FL.

He is survived by his sons, Daniel Powell Bryant of Carmi, IL, Brent Powell Bryant of Belleville, IL and Darren Todd Bryant (Linda) of Florence, KY; daughters, Lisa E. Whiteside (Scott) of Shelbyville, IL and Dana L. Stone (Jeff) of Mason, IL; sister, Mary Ann Leeds of Robinson, IL; seven grandchildren, Cory Voelker, Jaimee Bryant, Derek Bryant, Jordan Bryant, Jenna Koesterer, Dylan Bryant and Jonathan Bryant; and two great grandchildren, Millicent Voelker and Augustus Voelker.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Sylvia Placidi and Eleanor Jane Downen.
