Eugene E. Goers (85) of St. Elmo

Eugene E. Goers, 85, of St. Elmo, died at 1:12 a.m. Sunday, March 28, 2021 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, as the result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, rural Altamont with Rev. Marcus Manley officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery with military rites by Grobengieser-Fischer American Legion, Post #512, Altamont. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Altamont.

Eugene Eric Goers was born on Friday, February 7, 1936 in rural Altamont to Eric W. and Edna (Mercier) Goers. He married Helen Patterson on December 2, 1961 and then later married Evadine B. (Yagow) Voelker on August 22, 2009 and she preceded him in death on March 18, 2021. He retired from the Illinois Department of Corrections. He was a member of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church and belonged to the church choir. Eugene volunteered on the Effingham County Board of Elections. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force.

He is survived by sons, Brad Goers, St. Elmo, Brent (Julie) Goers, Mauston, Wisconsin and Tom Goers, Columbus, Ohio; daughters, Susan (Tim) Hammond, Tipp City, Ohio and Laura (Larry) Basden, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; step-son, David (Nawel) Voelker, South San Francisco, California; brothers, Richard (Sharon) Goers, Decatur and Larry (Sharon) Goers, Mason; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife; he was preceded in death by his parents.
