Cindy A. Martens, 84, of Effingham, IL, passed away at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, March 12, 2021 at her home with family present.

No services will be held at this time. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham is assisting the family.

Cindy was born on May 1, 1936, in Sullivan, IL, the daughter of Delmar and Violet (Scott) Stevens. She married Darrel Martens on January 27, 1967 in Dieterich, IL by Pastor Turis E. Davis.

Cindy was a graduate of Sullivan High School and later received a degree in psychology from Purdue University. She owned and operated Martens Monograming in Effingham. Cindy was a terrific bowler. She was the first woman in Decatur to roll a 300, which happened during a tournament in 1980. Cindy enjoyed horses, and as a young girl would barrel race. She later found joy in showing quarter horses for over 55 years. During these years, Cindy had several champion horses. She also loved bingo, playing cards, and throwing horse shoes. Most importantly, she was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Cindy is survived by her husband, Darrel Martens; daughter, Kim (Howard) Manuel; grandchildren, Abby (Jarrett) Grewell and Kassie Stanfield; bonus grandchildren, Brittany (Shawn) Garrett and Beau Manuel (Sydney Young); great-grandson, Kolt Grewell; bonus great-grandchildren, Sydnee, Brooklyn, Lexington, and Braxton Garrett; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Delmar and Violet (Scott) Stevens; brother, Leon Stevens; and sister, Audrey Skolnick.
