Kenneth M. Kinkelaar, 74 of Effingham, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at the Veteran’s Home of Anna, Illinois.

He was born on April 4, 1946 in Effingham to George and Bernadine (Nacke) Kinkelaar, the sixth of seven children. Ken graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1964 and joined the United States Army in 1966. He installed carpet for over 50 years with Broom’s and Habing’s combined. He was a member of the Teutopolis American Legion #924 and a member of Salt Creek Church in Watson.

Ken enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids and going to the Rocky Mountains and other National Parks. Ken met his classmate buddies regularly on Thursdays at the Kountry Kitchen in Teutopolis. He enjoyed watching westerns and had a playful sense of humor and mischievous laugh.

Survivors include his daughter, Shari Kinkelaar (life partner, Joe Groves) of Marion, son, Jason (Aimee) Kinkelaar of Broomfield, CO, daughter, Kristina (Russell) Purvis of Jackson, TN and son, Kevin Kinkelaar of Effingham; grandchildren, Nyjah Purvis, Aidan Kinkelaar and Violet Kinkelaar; brothers, George Kinkelaar of Holbrook, AZ and Greg Kinkelaar of Wright City, MO; sisters, Annie Miller of Teutopolis and Judy Goeckner of Effingham; brother-in-law, Clyde Buzzard of AZ; several nieces and nephews; other family, Joey (Katie) Groves and family, Katy (Evan) McCree and family, Megan Groves and Malakai Purvis; special childhood friend, Jerry Miller of Effingham.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Jean Buzzard and Floss Marten; brothers-in-law, Dick Marten, Tom Miller and Clete Goeckner; sister-in-law, Barb Kinkelaar; nephews, Roy Goeckner and Tom Williams and niece, Sandy Kelly.

Ken’s family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff at Veterans Home of Anna and an extra special thank you to Whitney.

Following his wishes, Ken was cremated. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there will be a remembrance mass or celebration of life gathering at a later date. Memorial donations may be given to the activities fund at the Veterans Home of Anna, Illinois or to Catholic Charities in Effingham. Arrangements are in the care of Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham.
