David Dean Koester, 56, of Shumway, IL, passed away on Friday, January 22, 2021 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.

A public walk-through visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 29, 2021, at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham, IL.

David was born on June 11, 1964, in Effingham, IL, the son of Clete and Betty (Goeckner) Koester. He attended St. Anthony High School and Effingham High School, graduating in 1982. He married Beth Musser on September 15, 1984.

David worked in pipeline maintenance for Bolin Enterprises Inc. in Casey, IL. He enjoyed being around friends and never met a stranger. David’s greatest passion was four-wheeling and mowing his lawn. Family was important and he loved his children and grandchildren.

David is survived by his wife, Beth Koester of Shumway; children, Hilary (Josh) Rakers of Oconee, MacKenzy Koester (Bryant Sawyer) of Shumway, and Matt (Jessica) Koester of Stewardson; grandchildren, Keaton and Hadley Sawyer, and Silas, Sawyer, and Wade Koester; parents, Clete and Betty Koester of Effingham; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jim and Lucille Musser of Shumway; and brothers, John (Jackie), Greg, Dan, Chris, Tim, Ted (Kathy), and Eric.

He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents; uncle, Bernard Koester; and many other aunts and uncles.
