Pauline Verdeyen, 87, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Because of Covid-19, the family is holding a small private funeral. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Effingham. Arrangements are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.

Pauline was born on June 20, 1933 in Shelby County, IL to Gaylord M. and Carrie W. (Bodine) Martin. She married Eugene Verdeyen on November 25, 1950. He preceded her in death on March 15, 2012.

Pauline was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Effingham. Pauline worked as a tax clerk and retired as a cook for Central School in Effingham. Pauline also volunteered for the hospital auxiliary. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Pauline loved baking pies, vacationing in Florida with her family, making and painting ceramics, and going to garage sales with her friend Jan.

Pauline is survived by her children, Vicky Verdeyen of Effingham, Donna (Jim) Wilson of Effingham, Laura (Cliff) Koester of Effingham, and Mike (Veronica) Verdeyen of Alton; sister, Grace Winings of Sarasota FL; grandchildren, Jim Hart (Amy), Todd Hart (Kristi), Jason Williams, Michael Williams, Christy Harris (Keith), Jimmy Wilson (Sara), Tim Wilson, Desiree Koester, and Alexandria Verdeyen (Aaron); ten great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and a great-grandchild on the way; as well as her beloved dog Lucy.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; husband Eugene, brothers, Earl Bodine, Bobby Dean Martin, Glen Martin, and Donald D. Martin; and sisters, Gwendolyn Mayhall, Jean Bernadini, June Grunloh, and Shirley Stateler.
