Floyd D. Barlow age 89, of Dieterich, Illinois, passed away at 1:52 PM Friday, January 22, 2021, at HSHS St John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.

Funeral services celebrating Floyd’s life will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at Meyer Funeral Home, Dieterich, Illinois, with Pastor Mike McKinney officiating. Burial will be in the Dieterich Village Cemetery with full military rites. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM Tuesday, January 26, 2021, with Masonic Rites at 7:00 PM at Meyer Funeral Home. While in attendance, please follow the recommendations of the CDC to observe social distancing, and the wearing of masks is recommended. Floyd was born on August 23, 1931, in Dieterich, Illinois, the son of Dale and Ruby Pulliam. He married Lucille “Lucy” Lewis on October 20, 1952, in Dieterich, Illinois. He enlisted in the Army National Guard on February 14, 1949. In 1952, Floyd was called to active duty, serving during the Korean War, returning home in September 1953. He continued to serve his country in the United States Army and retired on August 23, 1991.

Floyd started multiple businesses over the years. His first business was Barlow’s Sales and Service and the second one started a few years later, which was known as Barlow Café, both businesses were located on Main Street in Dieterich. His latest venture was Barlow Lock and Security, Inc. located in Effingham. While his first two businesses are no longer in operation, Barlow Lock and Security, Inc. is still in business.

Floyd will be loved and remembered by his wife of 69 years, Lucy Barlow; children Cathy Bierman of Newton, Illinois; Cindy (Mike) Overbeck of Teutopolis, Illinois; Susie (Jesse) James of Newton, Illinois; Sharon (John) Kemme of Dieterich, Illinois; and Lisa (Kevin) Pruemer of Dieterich. Grandchildren Zak Bierman, Kurt Bierman, Angie Goebel, Scott Bierman, Jared Bierman, Doug Bierman, Staci Bierman, Heather Case, Sarah French, Chris James, Jodi Mulvey, Casey James, Nathan Barlow, Tara Probst, Riley Pruemer, and Jadyn Pruemer. He has 31 great-grandchildren and counting.

Floyd was a member of the Christian Church in Dieterich, life member and past commander of the Effingham VFW Post 1769, past commander of the VFW District 17, life member and past commander of Dieterich American Legion Post 628, life member and past master of Winterrowd Masonic Lodge 664 in Dieterich, and a charter member of the Dieterich Ruritan Club.

In his free time, Floyd enjoyed fishing, trapshooting, going to all of his meetings, playing cards, and socializing with his friends. He spent the most recent years of his life caring for his wife, Lucy, who suffers from dementia, he was always by her side.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, great granddaughter Maggie Goebel and several siblings.
