Gloria Ellis (88) of Effingham

Gloria Ellis, 88, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Monday, January 11, 2021 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.

A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Effingham. Gloria was born on April 1, 1932, in Herrin, IL, the daughter of Mario and Louise (Comerio) Miramonti. She married Jack Ellis on September 17, 1955. He preceded her in death on July 5, 2011. Gloria was a Registered Nurse graduating from St. John’s School of Nursing in St. Louis, MO. She worked in many capacities of healthcare as a registered nurse in Marion, IL, Champaign, IL, and eventually settling in Effingham. Locally she worked for Dr. Devitt, St. Anthony Hospital, and Dr. Naam. At St. Anthony Hospital, she was known for her time spent in ER and registration. Family was important and Gloria was a dedicated mother and grandmother. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Gloria was an avid reader and belonged to several book clubs. She was also a part of the local bereavement club. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and traveling with her husband.

Gloria is survived by her children, Mary (Randy) Arney of Los Angeles, CA, Susan (Stephen) Scherer of Vail, AZ, and Paul Ellis of Effingham; grandchildren, Mary Margaret (Joe) Curran, Allison (Chris) Valenzuela, and Saul Ellis; and great-grandchildren, Emma and Jack Curran.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; and brother, Paul Miramonti. Gloria is deeply missed by her family and friends.
