Leroy Haarman, age 74, of Wheeler, Illinois, passed away at 8:45 AM – Friday, January 1, 2021, at Willowbrook Memory Support Residences of Effingham, Illinois.

A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at the St. Joseph Church in Island Grove, Illinois, with Father Frank Folino, OFM celebrating mass.  Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Island Grove, Illinois.  In loving memory of Leroy, memorials will be made to the MyMemoryWorxFund (Haarman Memorial) or St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.  Contributions can be made by mail to the Haarman Family, 23976 East 1100th Avenue Wheeler, Illinois 62479. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Dieterich, Illinois.  The private funeral mass will be streamed live on facebook (Meyer Funeral Home) at 2:00 PM – Tuesday, January 5, 2021.

Leroy was born November 8, 1946, in Jasper County, Illinois, the son of the late Louis and Marie (Hardiek) Haarman.  He graduated from Newton Community High School in 1964, and attended Utterback’s Business College.  He was united in marriage to Wanda McCoy on November 9, 1968, at St. Joseph’s Church in Island Grove, Illinois.

Leroy served in the Army National Guard from November of 1966, to November of 1972.  He was a farmer for many years and worked in the farming industry until his retirement. He was a loving husband, father to his children, and grandpa to his grandchildren.

Leroy was a member of the St. Isidore Parish – St. Joseph Catholic Church in Island Grove, Illinois, the Knights of Columbus Council #665 in Effingham, Illinois, and in his younger years he was a member of two bowling leagues.  Some of Leroy’s favorite things to do were: spending time with his family, playing cards, eating butter pecan ice cream and peach pie, watching sports and westerns in is favorite recliner, gardening and yard work, golf cart rides, and enjoying a cold drink.

Leroy is survived by his wife of 52 years – Wanda Haarman; Children – Brent (Jim Cox) Haarman, Kurt (Jill) Haarman, Kevin (Mindi) Haarman; 5 grandchildren – Alex Haarman, Mikaela Haarman, Trevor Haarman, Grady Haarman, and Lucy Haarman; Sisters – Marcella Bierman of Dieterich, Illinois; Marilyn (Ed) Smithenry of Newton, Illinois; Betty (Mike) Smithenry of Newton, Illinois; Deloris (Bernie) Bergfeld of Teutopolis, Illinois; Linda Streich of Nevada; and Diana (Richard) Worman of Effingham, Illinois. Special Friend of late brother David– Verna Koechner, and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Leroy was preceded in death by his brothers, Bobby and David; sisters, Irene and Evelyn; brother-in-law, Art “Jim” Bierman; nephew, Cliff Bierman; and grandparents, Joe and Christina Haarman and John and Philomena Hardiek.

The Haarman families wish to convey their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Willowbrook Memory Support Residence for their loving care of Leroy.

Leroy was loved by so many people that have shown their support during this time. He will be missed by all and cherished in the hearts of many people.
