Mary Jo Taylor, 80, of Hamilton, IL, passed away at her son’s home in Effingham, IL at 1:26 p.m. on Monday, December 28, 2020.

Mary Jo’s wishes were to be cremated, and a graveside service will be held at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton, IL. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham, IL is assisting the family.

Mary Jo was born on August 22, 1940, in Keokuk, IA, the daughter of John and Frances (Humphry) McMahan. She graduated from Hamilton High School in Hamilton, IL. On May 14, 1961, she was united in marriage to Jimmy L. Taylor at the Hamilton United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on December 24, 2002. 

Mary Jo worked for Dadant & Sons for over 40 years. She had a love for nature as she loved to watch the birds, butterflies, and small animals outside her window or while sitting out on the deck. She also had a talent for crafts: making unique yard ornaments, stained glass projects, and a passion for golf. Her true passion was with time spent with family. She loved to travel to her children’s homes, spending time reminiscing about the past, and creating plans for future projects. Mary Jo truly blessed the lives of everyone who knew her. 

Mary Jo is survived by her daughters, Debbie (Jim) Hartrick of Hamilton, IL, Connie Schoenfeld of Orange Park, FL, and Kim (Andy) Reiss of Rochelle, IL; son, Greg (Linda) Taylor of Effingham, IL; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jim “J.R.” McMahan and John “Hap” (Marilyn) McMahan, both of Hamilton, IL; and brother-in-law, Donald Taylor.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; and sister-in-law, Martha McMahan.
