Gary Lynn Traub  78 years old of Fairfield Glade, Cumberland County, Tennessee, formerly of St. Elmo, Illinois, a loving husband, father, grandfather died on Wednesday December 2, 2020 at  the Cumberland County Medical Center, Crossville, Tennessee after lingering health issues.

Funeral Services will be conducted at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Altamont on Wednesday Morning December 23 at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Dr. James F. Wright officiating. Christian Burial Rites will be conducted in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery at the family lot following the funeral services on Wednesday. COVID-19/Coronovirus-Kull Funeral Home is attempting to follow the Governor of Illinois public gatherings request of social distancing of people, and masks as suggested by the family.

Gary was born on July 6, 1942 at home in Lucas Township, Effingham County into the Christian family of Louis and Bernice Drews-Traub one of three siblings one brother and one sister. Gary spent his younger years growing up the Dietrich, Illinois area. Gary married Janet Ruth Pickens on June 3, 1962 in the Dieterich Christian Church. She preceded him in death on January 6, 1984. He then married Virginia Kay Engle on December 15, 1984 in Petersburg, Indiana and she survives. Gary graduated from the Dieterich High School in 1960. He furthered his education at Eastern Illinois University for his BS in education and later his master’s degree in Education. Gary began his career teaching school for the Casey Illinois School District and later was principal at the St. Elmo High School. He then opened his Country Companies Agency in St. Elmo and remained an agent for many years until his retirement. In 1998 Gary and Kay moved to Tennessee where he spent his life golfing and working at odd jobs.

While in the St. Elmo area, Gary was a long-time basketball official, being one of 12 charter members of the South-Central Basketball Officials Association. He was also a member of the St. Elmo Lions Club and the St. Elmo Golf Club where he enjoyed playing golf. While the family was growing up Gary played numerous fast-pitch 12” softball games for the Altamont Schuetzenfest and the Blue Mound Tavern teams as a catcher and infielder.

Memorials  may be directed to the Altamont Lutheran Interparish School, and or the Donor’s Choice.

He is survived by his: Wife: Virginia  Kay Engle-Traub of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee; Son: Todd Louis Traub of  Cabot, Arkansas and his son Nathan Louis Traub and his Daughter Chloe Justine Trauband her son Liam Porter Traub; Stepdaughter: Hannah Marie (husband, Andrew) McGilvra; Daughter: Jana Sue (husband, Jay) Deadmond of Altamont, Illinois and their 4 Sons: Trenton Jay (wife Frances) Deadmond and their Daughters: Hazel Clare and Neva Clark Deadmond; Kevin Curtis Deadmond, Ethan Garrett Deadmond and Logan Wesley (wife, Camryn) Deadmond; Stepdaughter: Shelley Irene Yakstis of Fenton, Missouri and her son: Alex Brian Gilbert; daughter: Lauren Rae Gilbert (husband, Morgan) Gray and their Daughter: Lucy Morgan Gray; Grand Son: Wesley James Kruger; Granddaughter: Gracen Jade Kruger; Brother: Louis Delaine (wife, Ruby) Traub of Louisville, Illinois; Sister: Gayla Elaine (husband William) Williams of Dieterich, Illinois.

Gary was preceded in death by: Parents: Louis Ernest Traub and Bernice Minny Mary Drewes-Traub; Wife: Janet Ruth Pickens Traub; Stepson: Stephen Joseph and wife Jeanie Kruger; Step Son-in-law: Willian Yakstis III.
