Harold L. Wolf (93) of Altamont

Harold Louis Wolf departed this earthly life and entered into eternal glory to be with His Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at the age of ninety-three years, three months and two days.

The visitation and funeral will be at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, rural Altamont on Tuesday, December 8, 2020. Immediate family will gather at the church at 8:45 for their private visitation. Visitation for family, friends, and congregation members will be from 9:30-10:20. The Reverend Marcus Manley will officiate the funeral service, which will begin at 10:30 a.m. with Committal in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery following. Reverend Marcus Manley officiating. Graveside military rites will be provided by Gieseking-Schwertdfeger VFW Post #7676, Altamont. All COVID safety precautions will be followed. Face coverings will be required. Memorials may be made to the Bethlehem Church Window Fund, Lutheran Care Center or donor’s choice. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Harold was born August 24, 1927 on the family farm in the Bethlehem community into the Christian family of John August Wolf and Minnie Frieda Louise (Burrow). He received the sacrament of Holy Baptism on September the 11th, 1927 by the Rev. M.W. Pott. His baptismal sponsors were: Fred Wolf, Edwin Burrow and Pauline Ziegler. He confirmed his faith by the rite of Confirmation on April 6, 1941 by Pastor Pott. On December 30, 1951 he married Mildred Louise Kroening in Bethlehem Lutheran Church with the Rev. E.G. Riedel officiating. Harold and Mildred were blessed by God with two daughters: Karen (Manuel) and Kim (Blievernicht). Harold and Mildred were married for almost 69 years.

Harold served his country in the United States Navy. He was Honorably Discharged USNR V-6 Ship USS Franklin D. Roosevelt CVB 42. Sea duty was from 1945-1946 at the closing of W.W.II hostilities. He was recalled to service (1951-1952) during the Korean Conflict with shore duty in Jacksonville Florida. Serving six years, eight months, and twelve days for the United States Navy.

Harold grew up on the family farm where hard work and strong faith in God was a way of life. He farmed and milked for many years. Harold was gifted with carpentering and used those skills throughout his life. He faithfully served his church in various capacities and was always assisting family and friends when needed.

His earthly remains are at rest awaiting the sure and certain resurrection when Jesus Christ returns on the Last Day. Firmly believing “in the resurrection of the dead and in the life of the world to come.” All Glory and Praise to God!   

Harold is survived by: his wife, Mildred, his daughters, Karen (Dean) Manuel of Altamont; Kim (Mike) Blievernicht of Newton; grandchildren, DeAnne (Sean) Yallaly of Rensselaer, Indiana; David (Lea) Manuel of Pleasant Plains, Illinois, Sharon (Eric) Schackmann of Newton, James Blievernicht of Effingham; great-grandchildren, John and Julia Yallaly, Delaina and Dawson Manuel and twins, Brayden and Ashley Schackmann, brother, Delbert (Doris) Wolf of Collinsville, Illinois, sisters-in-law, Marcella Wolf of Altamont, Mary Ellen Wolf of Nixa, Missouri, Helen Miller of Effingham and brother-in-law Gilbert (Jean) Kroening of Carbondale, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Ryan Blievernicht, great-grandchildren, Gabriel Yallaly, Ian and Madison Schackmann, brothers A.J. (Mabel) Wolf, Rev. Erhard Wolf, and brothers-in-law, Glen Miller and Louis (Thelma) Kroening.
