Gladys Emilie Graumenz, age 89, of St. Peter, Illinois passed away at 6:45 a.m. Saturday, November 28, 2020, at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.

There will be a private family funeral service at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in St. Peter, Illinois. Pastor Ryan Meyer will be officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may go to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be expressed by clicking here.

Gladys was born June 14, 1931, in Altamont, Illinois the daughter of John and Amanda (Hubrich) Wendling. She married Melvin August Graumenz on July 18, 1954, at St. Paul Blue Point Church in Altamont, Illinois. Gladys was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, where she was incredibly involved and sang in the church choir. She did work with the Lutheran Braille Workers in Effingham for several years. She loved canning vegetables, gardening, traveling, helping her husband on the farm, quilting with the Ladies, and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Keith Graumenz (wife Julie) of St. Peter, Illinois; daughters, Connie Komnick of New Berlin, Illinois and Rita Yagow (husband Dan) of Danville, Illinois; 8 grandchildren, Kristin Komnick of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Jason Komnick (wife Melissa) of Auburn, Illinois, Shelly Bandelow (husband Ray) of Loami, Illinois, Kendra Whittle (husband Stephen)  of St. Louis, Missouri, Carmen Yagow of Springfield, Illinois, Shawna Graumenz (husband Luke) of Edwardsville, Illinois, Derrek Jones of Vandalia, Illinois, Nathan Jones (wife Ashley) of Xenia, Illinois; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Amanda Wendling; husband, Melvin Graumenz; sisters, Alma Spilker and Elinor Alwardt; nephew, Loren Alwardt; and one great-grandson, Tyler Komnick.
