Steven C. Stewart, 67, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.

According to Steve’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. There will be no public services at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham is assisting the family.

Steven was born on February 7, 1953, in Mattoon, Illinois, the son of Albert O. “Abe” and Melba M. “Ruwe” Stewart. Steve was a 1971 graduate of Mattoon High School. Shortly after graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1971 to 1975 in Kunia, Oahu, Hawaii. Later, in 1975, Steve enrolled in Snetterton Club Circuit of Jim Russell Racing Drivers School in Norwich, England. Steve enrolled at Lake Land College in the Radio/T.V. Program. He had a successful broadcasting career with stops in Charleston, Casey, Salem, Centralia, Mattoon, and Mason City, Missouri. He was also a radio instructor at Cahokia High School and a security guard at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

He married his wife Kenna on February 27, 2015, in Nashville, Tennessee. Kenna and Steve enjoyed their trivia nights with their team “The Wiz Kids.” Traveling with Kenna or their friends was his favorite thing. Together, they visited Florida, New Orleans, Chicago, Saugatuck, Nashville, and Las Vegas. They also loved “glamping” with their good friends, the Butlers.

Steve and Kenna loved attending concerts together and their favorites: Paul McCartney, Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, Hall & Oates, Alan Jackson, Sheryl Crow, Rod Stewart, and Keith Urban. They also always enjoyed their date nights at the EPC. He had a love for photography, painting, collecting watches, and following NASCAR, the Bears, and the Cubs. Steve attended Faith Lutheran Church in Shumway.

Steve leaves behind his loving wife, Kenna Stewart of Effingham; stepchildren, Kent and Kayla Endebrock; several cousins and dear friends; and his beloved and faithful companion Freddy – “Good Boy”.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
