Leo Jones, 94, of Newton, IL passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at his home.

Graveside funeral services with full Military Rites will be at 2:30 pm on Tuesday November 17, 2020 at Westlawn Cemetery in Newton, IL. The Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL is assisting the family.

Leo was born on December 23, 1925 in Newton, IL the son of John E. and Amy Bessie (Romack) Jones. He married Marion Elizabeth Bangert on November 3, 1961. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years; children Susan Elizabeth (Wayne) Bergbower of Newton, IL, Paula Kay Jones (Alvaro) Argueta of Alameda, CA and John Darren Jones of Indianapolis, IN; three granddaughters Hannah Elizabeth Bergbower, Kaylyn Marie Bergbower and Morgan Rose Bergbower.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers William Warren, Oliver Leslie, John Ford, and Larry Oneal Jones and one sister Mary Jane Dittamore.

Leo was a farmer for over 60 years. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. Leo received two purple hearts during his time of service. He was a life member of the Newton VFW post 7537, Newton American Legion post 20 and Disabled American Veterans Assoc. Leo enjoyed taking long road trips,  farming and gardening, solving crossword puzzles, creating keepsakes made from wood from the farm,  keeping abreast of local, national and international events, and most of all spending time with his family. Leo was born in the same house where he raised his family and passed away.
