Charles E. Brockett (89) of Effingham

Charles E. Brockett, 89, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at Richland Nursing and Rehabilitation in Olney, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2020 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham with military rites. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday prior to the service at the funeral home. Due to Covid-19 concerns, please wear a mask for all services and follow all social distancing guidelines. Memorials may be made to the family. Charles was born on October 12, 1930, in Effingham, IL, the son of Amos and Minnie (Woods) Brockett. He married Anna Mae Prather on June 13, 1957. She preceded him in death on September 17, 1998.

Charles served his country in United States Army during the Korean Conflict and received the Purple Heart. He was an electrical worker and was a member of IBEW for over 60 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Charles most importantly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Charles is survived by his son, Ron (Sherry) Brockett of Mason; grandchildren, Hallie Brockett and Samuel Brockett; great-grandchildren, Grayson Niepert and Ahria Niepert; and brothers, Jim (Mary) Brockett of Effingham and Art Brockett of Sparta, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anna; son, Douglas Brockett; sister, Ruby Atkinson; and sister-in-law, Reba Brockett.
