Colby Allen Schafer (34) of Newton

Colby Allen Schafer, age 34, of Newton, Illinois, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2020 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.

Visitation will be held 4:00-6:00 PM – Thursday, October 1, 2020, at the Scott Avenue Christian Church in Newton, Illinois, with services to follow, with Kevin Colclasure officiating. In loving memory of Colby, memorials may be made to the family. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. Colby was born on November 8, 1985, in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Glen Dale and Leona Marie (Kocher) Schafer. He married Lisa Fennell on May 19, 2015, in Newton, Illinois, and she survives.

Colby graduated from Newton Community High School in 2004. He continued his education and became a Certified Nurses Assistant. Colby was a member of Scott Avenue Christian Church in Newton, Illinois; Eagles #291 in Terre Haute, Indiana. He enjoyed reading, playing video games and mowing lawns.

Colby is survived by: Wife of 5 years – Lisa Schafer of Newton, Illinois; Parents – Glen and Leona Schafer of Newton, Illinois; Mother-in-law- Barb Lee (Nathan LeClercq) of Terre Haute, Indiana; Sister-in-law – Melissa Gallagher of Terre Haute, Indiana; Nieces – Makayla Gaines, Brionna Gaines, Cierra Gaines all of Terre Haute, Indiana; Nephew – Austin Gaines of Terre Haute, Indiana; and several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.

Colby was preceded in death by his grandparents Merle and Opal Schafer, Robert and Margaret Kocher.
