Marie Lois Spitzer (98) of Ste. Marie

Marie Lois Spitzer, age 98, of Sainte Marie, Illinois, passed away at 9:20 AM Thursday, September 10, 2020 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Olney, Illinois.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, September 17, 2020, at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Sainte Marie, Illinois, with Fr. Dean Probst officiating. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. The obituary can be viewed and condolences left by cilcking here. 

Marie was born on May 9, 1922, in Sainte Marie, Illinois, the daughter of Nicholas and Charlotte (Culbertson) Spitzer. She graduated from Newton Community High School with the Class of 1940. She then obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Marie was a nurse for the Veterans Administration for 35 years. Marie was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Sainte Marie, Illinois. She enjoyed gardening, genealogy, playing cards and traveling.

Marie is survived by: Nephews – David (Jilla) Spitzer of York, Pennsylvania and Mark (Rhonda) Spitzer of Dieterich, Illinois Great Nieces – Stefanie (Matt) Eckhart of York, Pennsylvania; Alisha (Charles) Strasser of Las Vegas, Nevada; Danielle (Joshua) Lister of Ingraham, Illinois; Cheyenne Spitzer of St. Charles, Missouri Great Nephews – Matthew Spitzer of Baltimore, Maryland and Bryan Spitzer of Dieterich, Illinois 6 Great-Great Nieces 8 Great-Great Nephews.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, brother Donald Spitzer and great niece Erica Spitzer.
