Arthur Leo Kinkelaar, 87, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2020 at his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2020 with a 6:30 p.m. Teutopolis Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Rosary and Chalice Service all at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.

Due to COVID-19 concerns, the family requests to please wear a mask to all services and follow social distancing guidelines.

Arthur was born on September 20, 1932, in Effingham, IL, the son of Albert and Iona (Donsbach) Kinkelaar. He married Florence Breer on November 13, 1954 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis, IL.

Art was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Teutopolis Knights of Columbus Council #284, Past Grand Knight, Fourth Degree and Faithful Navigator, and Effingham Elks Lodge #1016. He worked at Effingham Regrinding, Inc. from 1956-1986. Art was a Deputy Sheriff for 30 years before becoming the Effingham County Sheriff from 1986-1994 until his retirement. He later was on the Douglas Township Board and did a lot with the Knights of Columbus Council #284. Art enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing.                                    

Art is survived by his wife of 65 years, Florence Kinkelaar of Effingham; son, Dean (Jody) Kinkelaar of Effingham; daughter, Denise (Tom) Lilley of Cary, NC; grandchildren, Nathan Morton of Effingham, Amanda (Don) Albaugh of Effingham, Ashley (Mark) Westendorf of Altamont, Brandon (Ashley) Morton of Effingham and Amber Lilley (fiancé, David Wyckoff) of Effingham; 11 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Don Kinkelaar of Effingham, Virgil (Lenora) Kinkelaar of Salina, KS, and Marilyn (Jim) Jansen of Neoga.

He was preceded in death by his patents; daughter, Janine Kinkelaar; brothers, Harold and Norman; sister, Barbara Wernsing; and granddaughter, Leigh Kinkelaar.
