Viola Joan Wooden, 89, of East Moline and formerly of Louisville, passed away at 11:20 am on Tuesday, July 14, 2020.

Joan was born on December 5, 1930 in Louisville, the daughter of the late Paul Leander and Laura V. (Grove) Wood. She married James Wooden Sr. on November 24, 1954 in Louisville and he preceded her in death on March 14, 2007. Joan was a schoolteacher in Louisville for several years, teaching elementary students as well as music and band students. She was a member of the Louisville United Methodist Church where she had played the piano for many Sunday services.

Joan is survived by three sons; James W. (Sonja) Wooden of Denver, Colorado, Jon-Mark Wooden of Columbia, Missouri, and Christopher Wooden of Ashland, Missouri, a daughter; Melinda (Richard) Jacobs of East Moline, five grandchildren, two sisters; Mary Jane Fester and Virginia Behrens and by several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers; Paul Jr., John, James and by three sisters; Margaret, Barbara and Elizabeth.

Graveside services honoring the life of Joan will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at the Shouse Chapel Cemetery in rural Louisville. Pastor Janice Cunningham will officiate. Triplett & Neal Funeral Home in Louisville is in charge of the care and arrangements. Memorial contributions in Joan’s memory are suggested to the Louisville United Methodist Church.
