Lloyd Stanley, age 82, of St. Elmo, Illinois passed away at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at his home, with his family by his side.

There will be a celebration of life at a later date. Memorials may go to St. Elmo Methodist Church, St. Elmo Lion’s Club, or the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be expressed by clicking here.

Lloyd was born on July 4, 1938 in Clay County, Illinois, the son of Carl and Geneva (Erwin) Stanley. He married Mona Dennis on July 27, 1956; they would have celebrated 64 years of marriage this month. Lloyd owned and operated “Lloyd’s Mobile Homes” for 40 years in St. Elmo, Illinois. He served St. Elmo City as alderman for 28 years, served as acting mayor for a short time, and worked for SRPC for many years. He was a member of the St. Elmo Lions club for 55 years and was a charter member of St. Elmo Golf for 50 years. Lloyd taught Sunday school for 50 years, was a choir member, and had many jobs in the Methodist church. He loved his church and lived his faith.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mona Stanley of St. Elmo, Illinois; son, Steve Stanley (wife Deane) of Troy, Illinois; daughter, Rena Thoele (husband Kevin) of New Baden, Illinois; grandsons, Michael Thoele (wife Jordan) and Nick Thoele; granddaughters, Emily and Kaitlyn Stanley; two sisters, Joyce Childers of Colorado and Ruth Ann Leib (husband Harold) of Flora, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Geneva Stanley; brothers-in-law, Charles Childers and Ronald Dennis.
