Frank B. Koester, 80, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at his home in rural Dieterich.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorial donations may be given to the Effingham D.A.V. Chapter 7.
 
Frank was born October 10, 1939 in Effingham, the son of Louis and Ruth (Wendt) Koester. He married Frances (Walker) Avery on November 8, 1969. He did construction for many years and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Effingham Knights of Columbus Council #665. Frank enjoyed gardening, woodworking and bird watching. He also had a love for his dogs and team horses.
 
Frank is survived by his wife, Frances of Dieterich; children, Shanta (Larry) Pruemer of Teutopolis, Vicki (David) Cripps of Effingham, Robin Fowler of Columbia, TN, Frank (Kelly) of Port St. Lucie, FL, Tim Avery of Effingham and Nick (Teresa) Avery of Newton; ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; brothers, Mark “Tony” (Mary Jane) of Teutopolis, Dan (Kathy) of Effingham and Aaron (Julie) Koester of Effingham; sisters, Mary Ann (Richard) Sanders of Effingham and Joyce (Mike) Wente of Teutopolis.
 
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Robert E. Koester and Robert B. Avery; grandson, Justin R. Koester; brother, Charles “Chuck” Koester and father in law, Jewel Walker.
