Donald J. Buenker, 82, of Teutopolis, IL, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2020 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 2020 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Online condolences may be shared by clicking here.
Donald was born on May 31, 1938, in Effingham, IL, the son of Arthur and Luella (Overbeck) Buenker. He was united in marriage to Mardell Will on February 7, 1959. She preceded him in death on April 5, 2018. Donald was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and Teutopolis Knights of Columbus. Donald began working at Norge for 15 years until deciding to farm full time. He was an avid reader. In his later years, Donald found joy in simply sitting out by the pond.
Donald is survived by his children, Wanda (Paul) Redmond, Sandy (Karl) Jansen, Dwayne “Chop” Buenker, Deanna (Kyle) Budde, and Kevin (Michelle) Buenker; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mary Beth (Harold) Hartke and Ruth (Bill) Hunt.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mardell; son, Allan Buenker; brother, James “Pete” Buenker; and sister, Geralyn “Geri” Grunloh.
