Sidney Kay Manning, 84, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2020.

The family will gather for a graveside service Monday, June 8, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in Oak Grove Cemetery near Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Tracy Zimmerman officiating. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Memorial contributions may be given to the family for Opal’s care and mailed to the Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, 415 N. Broadway, Shelbyville, IL 62565.

Sidney was born on May 25, 1936, in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Sidney Earl and Kathleen (Chisnhall) Manning. He attended and graduated from Shelbyville High School in the class of 1955. Sidney served in the U.S. Army from 1959 until 1960. He worked for the Oliver Corporation in Shelbyville and farmed the family farm east of Shelbyville, IL. Sidney married Opal (Sparling) Heselton on January 7, 1971. He and Opal owned and operated Opal’s Candy Kitchen in Shelbyville, IL, for over forty years. Together, they enjoyed selling their homemade candy at their shop and on weekends at county fairs, festivals, and flea markets across the state. Sidney was affiliated with the Apostolic Church and enjoyed collecting Oliver and International memorabilia.

He is survived by his wife, Opal; children, John (Kelly) Heselton of Shelbyville, IL, Darrell (Ellen) Heselton of Shelbyville, IL, Tracey Heselton of Shelbyville, IL, and Stacey (LaNette) Heselton of Vandalia, IL; special family friend, Richard Hagan of St. Louis, MO; sister, Mary Jane Moore of Little Rock, AR; fourteen grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

Sidney was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Pam Heselton; and one great grandson, Peyton Gatton.
