Noma Lee Stanley, 85, of Bible Grove, passed away at 2:19 pm on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

She was born on January 27, 1935 in Bible Grove, the daughter of the late Louis Edward and Lula Mae (Lyons) Fopay. Noma Lee married William “Bill” Stanley on her birthday on January 27, 1953 at Hoosier Prairie Baptist Church and he survives.

Noma Lee worked as a cook for 26 years at North Clay School District. She was a member of Bible Grove Christian Church and the Ladies Aid Group. She loved music; she sang and played the piano for many years at the church and was also the pianist for several funeral services over the years. Noma Lee enjoyed flowers and gardening, putting jigsaw puzzles together and she liked sewing and making clothing. She had a reputation for being a good cook and was locally known for her noodles, fried chicken and corn.

In addition to her husband of 67 years, Bill, Noma Lee is survived by a daughter; Kathy (Jerry) Pilcher of Bible Grove, one grandson; Matthew Brandon Pilcher (special friend Mariah Hogan) of Bible Grove, three sisters-in-law; Kay (Dale) Murbarger of Louisville, Janet Fopay of Flora and Connie (Pete) Crump of St. Louis, Missouri, and by several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers; Charles Richard Fopay and Joseph Edward Fopay, a sister; Mary Jane West, a brother-in-law; Melvin West, a sister-in-law, Betty Fopay and by her father & mother-in-law; Jesse & Elizabeth Stanley.

Private funeral services honoring the life of Noma Lee will be conducted. A graveside service will be held at Bible Grove Cemetery at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 2, 2020. Mike Elliott will officiate. Those wishing to attend Noma Lee’s graveside service are asked to observe social distancing measures. Triplett & Neal Funeral Home in Louisville is in charge of the care and arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Noma Lee’s memory are suggested to the Bible Grove Christian Church.
