Lela “Bernice” Fontaine, 94, of Windsor, IL passed away at 7:50 a.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at Palm Terrace in Mattoon, IL.

Bernice was born on February 15, 1926, in Morocco, IN, the daughter of Bernard and Anna (Hickman) Lane. She and Joseph James Fontaine were united in holy matrimony on June 7, 1944, in Morocco, IN. Bernice was a member of the Windsor Christian Church where she had been active in Ladies Aid, taught Sunday School and volunteered at Heartland Senior Living. One of her hobbies was writing poetry and in her 80’s she had a book of her poems published.

Bernice is survived by sons: Joseph (Nancy) Fontaine and Terry Fontaine, both of Windsor; daughter, Linda (Morris) Van Vleet of Rockwell, NC; grandchildren: Morris Jr. (Lynn) Van Vleet of Lake Lure, NC, Judy (Scott) Fendrick of Terre Haute, IN, and Aaron (Tricia) Fontaine of Brownsburg, IN; greatgrandchildren: Tiffany, Kylie, Logan, Kelsey and Jaxon; great-great-grandson, Tylen.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; infant son, Larry; granddaughter, Cynthia; siblings: Bernette, Bert, Howard, Maxine and Barbara.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private graveside service will be held at Weston Cemetery in Rensselaer, IN with Reverend Richard Eident officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bernice’s name to the Palm Terrace of Mattoon and sent to Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home, %Bernice Fontaine, 207 N. Oak, Windsor, IL 61957.
