Jack H. Ashbaugh, 87, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at his home.

Private family services will be held with burial in Arborcrest Memorial Park in Effingham. Arrangements are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Jack was born on May 10, 1932, in Effingham, IL, the son of Daniel and Daisy (Bishop) Ashbaugh. He married Irene Harlan on July 18, 1959 in Springfield, IL. Jack served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Jack taught for many years at Teutopolis High School. He also taught night classes at Lake Land College. Jack was fond of saying that he taught his doctor, lawyer, dentist, eye doctor, banker, and several nurses in the area. He was instrumental in starting the Watson Fire Protection District and acted as treasurer for many years. Jack also loved woodworking and visiting with others, especially his neighbors. He was a member of Effingham American Legion Post 120 and the Illinois Retired Teachers Association.

Jack is survived by his wife, Irene Ashbaugh of Effingham; David (Cathy) Ashbaugh of Effingham, John Ashbaugh of Watson, and Clark Ashbaugh (Wendy Will) of Effingham, grandchildren, Holly (Tom) Curry, Mitchell (Stephanie) Ashbaugh, Jacqueline “Dani” (fiancé, Kyle Adamic) Ashbaugh, and Austin Ashbaugh; 2 step-grandchildren, Tanishia (Josh) Fulk and Kyle Tatman (Julie Volk); 8 great-grandchildren; and sister, Maybelle Barnes of St. Elmo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Ashbaugh; sisters, Marbelle Haslett, Twilla Eirhart, and Ruth Parks, and daughter-in-law, Jean Ann Ashbaugh.
