Dorothy Meier, 88, of Altamont, died at 8:00 a.m. Sunday, April 5, 2020 at her home.

Private family services will be held and burial will follow in Arborcrest Memorial Park, Effingham. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Altamont Lutheran Interparish Schools or the donors’ choice. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Dorothy I. Meier was born at home in rural Effingham on Monday, November 9, 1931 to the late Edwin and Gertrude Ziegler Hammer. On September 23, 1951 she was united in marriage to Arlen P. Meier and he preceded her in death in 1995. Dorothy was a homemaker and assisted on the family grain and cattle farm. She was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. She had been an Exhibition Hall superintendent at the Effingham County Fair for many years and a volunteer for Meals On Wheels, Altamont.

Dorothy is survived by; her sons, Delbert (Alice) Meier, Altamont; Roger (Jane) Meier, Centralia; Dan Meier, Chesterfield, MO; Richard (Sara) Meier, Effingham; Tom (Jayme) Meier, The Woodlands, TX: her grandchildren, Tanner (Amie) Meier, Patoka; Dustin (Jona) Meier, Centralia; Tai (Rick) Kasban, Ashley; Erik (Micah) Meier, Altamont; Tyler (Danae) Meier, Woodland, CA; Hilary Meier, Nesbit, MS; Haley Meier, The Woodlands, TX; Adam Meier, The Woodlands, TX: her great grandchildren, Evan and Ava Meier, Patoka; Logan and Devin Meier, Centralia; Brody and Chase Kasban, Ashley; Aisley Meier, Altamont; Haden, Wade and Maile Meier, Woodland, CA.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her sisters Velda Soltwedel and Marilyn Moeller.
